“You brood of vipers! Who told you to flee <strong>the</strong> com<strong>in</strong>g wrath? The ax is already at <strong>the</strong> root of <strong>the</strong> trees, and every treethat does <strong>no</strong>t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> fire.”—John <strong>the</strong> Baptist address<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Sanhedr<strong>in</strong>.——————————————————————————————————————————————“And when <strong>the</strong> chief priests heard <strong>the</strong> news of Jesus’ resurrection, <strong>the</strong>y devised a plan to give <strong>the</strong> soldiers guard<strong>in</strong>g<strong>the</strong> tomb a large sum of money, tell<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m ‘You are to say that His disciples came dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> night and stole hisbody away while you were asleep. And if word of this gets to <strong>the</strong> gover<strong>no</strong>r, we will satisfy him and keep you out oftrouble.’ So <strong>the</strong> soldiers did as <strong>the</strong>y were <strong>in</strong>structed and this story has been widely circulated among <strong>the</strong> Jews to thisvery day.”—Book of Mat<strong>the</strong>w——————————————————————————————————————————————“Christians and o<strong>the</strong>rs who reject <strong>the</strong> Talmud will go to hell and be punished <strong>the</strong>re for all generations.”—The Babylonian Talmud, Judaism’s most holy book, Rosh Hashana, 17a.——————————————————————————————————————————————“Woe to you, teac<strong>her</strong>s of <strong>the</strong> law and Pharisees, you hypocrites. For centuries, Jews concealedfrom Christians <strong>the</strong>ir hatred towards Jesus, and this tradition cont<strong>in</strong>ues even <strong>no</strong>w. Jesus is revolt<strong>in</strong>g and repulsive, and this repulsion passed from <strong>the</strong> observant Jews to <strong>the</strong> general Israeli public.”— Rami Rozen, writer for <strong>the</strong> Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz——————————————————————————————————————————————“So when <strong>the</strong> crowd had ga<strong>the</strong>red, Pilate asked <strong>the</strong>m ‘Which one do you want me to release to you, Barabbas or Jesus, who is called Christ?’ for he knew that it was out of envy that <strong>the</strong> Jews had handed Jesus over to him...and <strong>the</strong> ChiefPriests and <strong>the</strong> elders persuaded <strong>the</strong> crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.”—Book of Mat<strong>the</strong>w97
98THE NEW SANHEDRINThe New Sanhedr<strong>in</strong>“What are we to do with <strong>the</strong>se men?” <strong>the</strong>y asked among <strong>the</strong>mselves. “We must warn <strong>the</strong>m <strong>no</strong>t to speak anymore<strong>in</strong> his name.” The problem for those who were debat<strong>in</strong>g this question of “what to do with <strong>the</strong>se men” wasthat many miracles had been performed by <strong>the</strong>m <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> pla<strong>in</strong> sight of <strong>the</strong> whole community, and <strong>the</strong>rewas <strong>no</strong> argu<strong>in</strong>g aga<strong>in</strong>st it. What was even more vex<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong>m was <strong>the</strong> boldness of <strong>the</strong>se former fis<strong>her</strong>men<strong>in</strong> go<strong>in</strong>g forth fearlessly like first century renditions of William Wallace and his band of Scotsmen, refus<strong>in</strong>gto knuckle under and abandon <strong>the</strong>ir War for Independence <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> face of so many threats. And it was dueto <strong>the</strong>se reasons that <strong>the</strong>ir opponents were ga<strong>the</strong>red that day, and understandably anxious about handl<strong>in</strong>gthis problem <strong>without</strong> too much attention be<strong>in</strong>g drawn to it.Those who were ga<strong>the</strong>red toge<strong>the</strong>r ponder<strong>in</strong>g this troubl<strong>in</strong>g question were <strong>the</strong> members of <strong>the</strong> Sanhedr<strong>in</strong>who had just recently put that ambitious and pesky carpenter from Nazareth to death, and who <strong>no</strong>wwere <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess of persecut<strong>in</strong>g his followers, ston<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m, hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m thrown <strong>in</strong>to prison, and <strong>in</strong>general br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g to bear all of <strong>the</strong> mechanisms of coercion which were available to <strong>the</strong>m at <strong>the</strong> time.Clearly, <strong>the</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess of br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g to an end <strong>the</strong> box<strong>in</strong>g match that took place over <strong>the</strong> course of 3 yearsbetween <strong>the</strong> Nazarene and <strong>the</strong> most esteemed and ho<strong>no</strong>red members of <strong>the</strong> religious leadership was <strong>no</strong>tas f<strong>in</strong>alized as <strong>the</strong>y had thought it was. In kill<strong>in</strong>g him, <strong>the</strong>y had opened up a can of worms that appearedto be almost unconta<strong>in</strong>able, and <strong>no</strong>w, <strong>in</strong> utter desperation, <strong>the</strong>y were attempt<strong>in</strong>g to stop a fire that appearedto be unstoppable. Thus were <strong>the</strong> events which gave birth to <strong>the</strong> Christian faith as recounted <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Book of Acts, a heartpound<strong>in</strong>g,<strong>her</strong>oic tale <strong>in</strong> which a band of revolutionaries defies <strong>the</strong> powers that be <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir desire to live asfree men. As such, <strong>the</strong>re are to be found <strong>in</strong> this story all <strong>the</strong> elements which have encompassed o<strong>the</strong>r talesof similar <strong>the</strong>me, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> evil tyrants who oppress and weigh down <strong>the</strong> people, and <strong>the</strong> <strong>her</strong>oeswho, hav<strong>in</strong>g been struck with <strong>the</strong> idea that it is better to perish as free men than to live as slaves, bravelygo forth light<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> fires of revolution and justice <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> process. Most of those who call <strong>the</strong>mselvesChristians today, while ack<strong>no</strong>wledg<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir respect for <strong>the</strong>se events, never<strong>the</strong>less seem to have littleunderstand<strong>in</strong>g as to w<strong>her</strong>e <strong>the</strong> importance of such events lie <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> present. To those who pay some lipservice to <strong>the</strong> freedom fighters, (Peter, Paul, et al) <strong>the</strong> events are simply occurrences of a bygone history,as was General Wash<strong>in</strong>gton’s cross<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> Delaware or Patrick Henry’s speech to <strong>the</strong> Virg<strong>in</strong>ia Houseof Burgesses. Little do <strong>the</strong>y appear to realize that <strong>the</strong>y are liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> midst of this event, an event whichwas only part one <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> War of Independence which Christianity declared aga<strong>in</strong>st Pharisaical Judaism <strong>in</strong><strong>the</strong> t<strong>in</strong>y town of Jerusalem nearly 2,000 years ago. The danger to this <strong>in</strong>accurate understand<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong>event is lethal, both spiritually and physically, for <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> process of gett<strong>in</strong>g bad <strong>in</strong>telligence reports muchof what calls itself Christianity has made fatal errors <strong>in</strong> terms of logistics and plann<strong>in</strong>g, and as such <strong>no</strong>wstands poised to be overrun by <strong>the</strong> enemy, if <strong>in</strong>deed this has <strong>no</strong>t already happened.“What are we to do with <strong>the</strong>se men?” <strong>the</strong>y ask on a daily basis today, and have <strong>no</strong>w, for at least one century, possibly two. Those who are ga<strong>the</strong>red toge<strong>the</strong>r today, ponder<strong>in</strong>g this troubl<strong>in</strong>g question are <strong>the</strong> modernday descendants of <strong>the</strong> same Sanhedr<strong>in</strong> who had put that ambitious and pesky carpenter from Nazarethto death, and who <strong>no</strong>w are <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess of persecut<strong>in</strong>g his followers, kill<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m, hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m thrown<strong>in</strong>to prison, and <strong>in</strong> general br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g to bear all <strong>the</strong> mechanisms of coercion which are available to <strong>the</strong>m atthis time. “We must warn <strong>the</strong>m <strong>no</strong>t to speak anymore <strong>in</strong> His name.”The average Christian contemplat<strong>in</strong>g who such persons might be today, (and <strong>in</strong>evitably fall<strong>in</strong>g back on<strong>the</strong> propaganda which has been poured <strong>in</strong>to his or <strong>her</strong> consciousness by a Zionist media) would <strong>in</strong>variably
