In Germany this approval is issued bythe Federal Post <strong>and</strong> Telecommunications Office <strong>and</strong> its subsidaries.EN 60204-1 Topic/criterion NotesFor the installation <strong>and</strong> operation of the products described in Paragraph 4 Generalthis catalog, the installation guidelines described in the manualsrequirements<strong>and</strong> the important notes concerning installation in cabinets <strong>and</strong>concerning the use of shielded cable must be complied with.The SIMATIC automation system is not a machine within thecontext of the EU machine guidelines. There<strong>for</strong>e a declaration ofcon<strong>for</strong>mity with regard to the EU machine directive 89/392/EECor 2006/42/EU (new edition, applicable from end of 2009) maynot be provided <strong>for</strong> SIMATIC.The EU machine directive regulates the requirements placed ona machine or a part thereof. A machine is understood <strong>for</strong> thepurposes of this guideline to be a combination of interconnectedparts or mechanisms (see also EN 292-1, Paragraph 3.1).SIMATIC is part of the electrical equipment of a machine, <strong>and</strong>must there<strong>for</strong>e be integrated into the evaluation of the completemachine by the machine manufacturer.As electrical equipment, SIMATIC is subject to the low-voltagedirective which, as a "total safety directive", covers all dangersjust like the machine directive.The EN 60204-1 st<strong>and</strong>ard (safety of machines, general requirements<strong>for</strong> the electrical equipment of machines) is applicable tothe electrical equipment of machines.The following table will help you in the provision of your declarationof con<strong>for</strong>mity, <strong>and</strong> shows which criteria according toEN 60204-1 (2006-06) apply to SIMATIC.
