results. The state’s tax agent has appealed to the courts. The additional tax<br />

expense, if the tax authority should eventually win the dispute, amounts to SEK<br />

21.8 M.<br />

Other than through the provision in the balance sheet, the tax effect of the<br />

remaining tax disputes in Sweden and Norway is reported as a contingent liability<br />

totaling SEK 9.0 M. Fees and interest may be additional.<br />

On May 22, 2002 Tore Nuland fi led a summons application at Nacka District<br />

Court against <strong>Intrum</strong> <strong>Justitia</strong> AB, inter alia. The application relates to claims tried<br />

by Norwegian courts in the late 1980s without any possibility for further appeal.<br />

NOTE 23 AVERAGE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES<br />

<strong>Intrum</strong> <strong>Justitia</strong> regards the claims as groundless and accordingly has not accounted<br />

any contingent liability.<br />

In Switzerland, <strong>Intrum</strong> <strong>Justitia</strong> is involved in a dispute with a partner in its<br />

guarantee operations. <strong>Intrum</strong> <strong>Justitia</strong> has both receivables from and liabilities to<br />

the partner which have not been paid pending a legal resolution. In its accounts,<br />

<strong>Intrum</strong> <strong>Justitia</strong> has allocated provisions corresponding to the anticipated<br />

outcome of the dispute.<br />

The Group is otherwise involved in various legal actions in the normal course<br />

of business. In the opinion of management, the outcome of such actions is not<br />

expected to give rise to any signifi cant loss.<br />

There are no pledged assets, contingent assets or contingent liabilities in the<br />

Parent Company.<br />
