<strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> 2009-2012(i)<strong>Campbelltown</strong> 2025 Looking Forward<strong>Council</strong>’s 2025 Looking Forward document was considered in the development ofthis strategy. It provides a long term strategic direction for <strong>Council</strong>, and wasdeveloped after a significant level of community participation. The documentidentifies six (6) Strategic Directions for <strong>Council</strong> to address in it’s operations. One ofthese directions is identified “Protecting and enhancing the city’s key environmentalassets”. <strong>Campbelltown</strong> 2025 Looking Forward also lists the key influences that willplay a part in how the <strong>City</strong> of <strong>Campbelltown</strong> will look, feel and function over the next20 years. The environmental influences listed are:• Increasing community awareness of environmental issues and support forconservation of ecological processes and resources;• Depletion of biodiversity (threatened species, endangered ecologicalcommunities etc.) in the face of urbanisation;• Natural resource (such as water, biodiversity, agricultural land etc.)management will refocus on “demand management”;• Emergence of new architectural styles that better respond to climate change,energy efficiency and depletion of natural resources.• The vision encapsulated in <strong>Campbelltown</strong> 2025 Looking Forward lists desiredenvironmental outcomes in regards to this strategic direction. Those outcomesare:An improved community recognition of the contribution that biodiversity,natural resources and natural environmental features contribute towardour quality of life, fostering broader community stewardship of keyenvironmental assets;The significance of important natural environmental features is protected;The diversity of the <strong>City</strong>’s indigenous flora and fauna is retained;The health of the <strong>City</strong>’s rivers and other water resources is enhanced;Clean air and a reduction in local greenhouse gas emissions; andDevelopment and land use matches environmental capacity andcapability.Version 2.03 18/3/10Page 8 of 48
