<strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> 2009-2012(iii) Nepean RiverThe Hawkesbury Nepean River is a significant watercourse in the Sydney region. It’sheadwaters begin in Tarago in the Mulwaree region, through to the Wollemiwilderness area in the North.Notably, the River provides adrinking water source for theSydney area. Additionally, theriver boasts high biodiversityand also offers a range ofrecreational opportunities. The<strong>Campbelltown</strong> LGA features asmall proportion of the NepeanRiver.(iv)Threatened speciesAround 50 different threatened species can be found in the <strong>Campbelltown</strong> LGA.These species include the Grey-headed Flying fox, Broad-headed Snake, Koala,Nodding Geebung, Parma wallaby, silver perch and the powerful owl. The significantnumber of threatened species in <strong>Campbelltown</strong> illustrates the high level ofbiodiversity that is preserved in local bushland, parks, reserves and waterways.Version 2.03 18/3/10Page 16 of 48
