<strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> 2009-2012• Section 3 – Strategies and Programs to be addressed• Section 4 – The Implementation Plan- Programs incorporating environmental education.- Specific environmental education programs.- <strong>Environmental</strong> education tools.1.3 PurposeThe <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> (the <strong>Strategy</strong>) has been developed by<strong>Campbelltown</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Council</strong> with the purpose of providing a holistic and strategicapproach to environmental education programs undertaken for the community and<strong>Council</strong> over the next three (3) years. It has been prepared in consultation with allrelevant sections of <strong>Council</strong>, in order to develop a comprehensive understanding andintegrated approach to both the current and the potential future environmentaleducation activities that <strong>Council</strong> will be required to deliver. The <strong>Strategy</strong> has beendeveloped in the context of educational directives from both Federal and StateGovernment, as well as <strong>Council</strong>’s own management plans.The educational activities outlined in the document cover a broad spectrum ofenvironmental issues and are targeted at a number of different key audiences, via arange of activities. In order to address these different components there is a clearneed to have them guided by a clear strategicdirection.At the conclusion of the three (3) year period for the<strong>Strategy</strong> a review will be undertaken on itseffectiveness to determine its value in guiding<strong>Council</strong>’s environmental education activities. This willalso coincide with the commencement of thepreparation of the Community Plan as part of the newintegrated planning and reporting framework, whichwill incorporate the State of the Environment (SoE)reporting currently under review.It is envisaged this reporting will continue to provide areport card on the quality of the natural environmentVersion 2.03 18/3/10Page 2 of 48
