ClimateChange will affect many other issues such as drought and water availability, firefrequency and intensity, and biodiversity, as the climate shifts away from currentconditions. One of the significantthreats to air quality is smoke from fires. This occurs both in Summer from bushfires, and also in Winter from smoke from household wood heaters. Whilst smoke frombushfires is unavoidable at times, Council can work to educate the community onrunning their household wood heaters more efficiently and with reduced smokeemissionsInternalEducationforCouncilPesticide andChemical ManagementAll of the aboveEmissionsPesticide andHerbicideuse, storage, and disposalSustainableworkpractices andpoliciesA key threat to air quality levels is emissions. These emissions come from both vehicleusage, and also from the burning of coal for energy production. Whilst these activitiesare important components of our lives, by being energy efficient and using our vehiclesless, we can reduce the impact that we have on air quality. The usage of these types of chemicals can often threaten biodiversity. Inadequate orunsafe use, storage, and disposal can lead to pollution and health and safety concerns.Council is committed to promoting and implementing sustainable work practices andpolicies. These practices and policies not only promote environmental sustainability butset an example to the community.Version 2.03 18/3/10Page 41 of 48
