<strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> 2009-2012associated with food production and transport and encourage suppliers tosource local produce.• Childcare Centre Program – <strong>Council</strong> will undertake a program to improve thesustainability of its Childcare Centres, and to also incorporate an increasedlevel of sustainability education to their activities.• Online Communication Methods – This program will explore the opportunitiesfor innovative online communication methods. The options may include, but isnot restricted to, tools such as Twitter, Facebook, a blog site and others thatmay yet be identified.3.4 Implementation and review of Programs3.4.1 Annual Action PlansGiven the lengthy implementation period outlined for the <strong>Strategy</strong>, Annual ActionPlans will be produced to provide for effective planning and management of theprograms. These plans will provide a useful tool to guide and monitor theimplementation of the <strong>Strategy</strong>. Given the shorter scope of the Plans, they will beuseful in identifying new programs or topic areas not be included within the <strong>Strategy</strong>,and provide a flexible approach. In order to monitor the effectiveness of theimplementation of these Action Plans, they will be reported to <strong>Council</strong> as they areprepared.3.4.2 Promotion of ProgramsOne of the key components of <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Education</strong> by <strong>Council</strong> is the promotionof awareness of environmental issues, in addition to promotion of <strong>Council</strong>’s actions inaddressing these issues. Coverage in local media sources in regards toenvironmental issues and environmental activities undertaken by <strong>Council</strong> can beconsidered to be environmental education in itself. Additionally, it also serves topositively promote the actions <strong>Council</strong> undertakes to address these issues. For thisreason, it is deemed highly important to undertake promotional activities.A number of promotional tools should be considered when developing neweducational programs. These have been outlined below:• <strong>Council</strong>’s proposed environmental ‘e newsletter’ (see Implementation Plan inAppendix 4);• <strong>Council</strong> website;• Media release;• Interview on 2MCR;• Sector Connect;• Compass, <strong>Council</strong>’s community newsletter; and• Connect, the <strong>Council</strong> staff newsletter, wallpaper image on network computers,staff emails, and frames in staff rest rooms.3.4.3 Annual reportingGiven the lengthy timeframe to which the <strong>Strategy</strong> applies, an Annual Report Cardwill be produced to measure its progress in the interim years. These cards willhighlight the programs that are being implemented under the <strong>Strategy</strong>, and gaugetheir effectiveness in their own right according to defined performance indicators (seebelow).Version 2.03 18/3/10Page 23 of 48
