INVESTMENTS - INTEREST RATE RISKInterest rate risk is defined as the risk that changes ininterest rates will adversely affect the fair value <strong>of</strong>investments. Also, investments can be highly sensitive tochanges in interest rates due to their terms orcharacteristics.State TreasuryThe State Treasury limits the interest rate risk <strong>of</strong> theGeneral Fund by limiting maturities <strong>of</strong> its investments t<strong>of</strong>ive years or less. The interest rate risk <strong>of</strong> certain specialfunds within the State Treasury is limited by restrictingmaturities <strong>of</strong> their investments to ten years or less. Theinterest rate risk <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Louisiana</strong> Education Quality TrustFund (LEQTF), Millennium Trust Fund, and the MedicaidTrust Fund portfolios are limited by managing their maturityand duration using fixed income indices as benchmarks togauge and limit such risk.
