Catalog EPS 5350/USAEngineeringParker Oil <strong>Seal</strong> Installation1. Clean seal bore and shaft and remove allburrs and nicks.2. Pre-lubricate the seal ID and shaft beforeinstalling the seal into the cavity. Use a pre-lubethat is compatible with the system lubricant. Thepre-lube will make the seal easier to install andprevent dry running during initial start-up.3. Protect seal lip against damage from sharpkeyways, splines and screw threads. This can bedone by either taping the keyway, inserting anelement into the keyway or using an assemblysleeve that fits over the shaft.4. Point seal lip in correct direction and push toedge of the counterbore.Parker Oil <strong>Seal</strong>s5. Slide the seal over the shaft to the sealhousing. With finger pressure, start seal intohousing with a slight rotating motion until seal hasa light press fit in the housing. Be sure seal issquare or perpendicular to the shaft. If the seal iscrooked or cocked, continuing with installation willdamage the seal.6. Finish installation by using a tool appropriatefor your seal/housing configuration. Drive seal tofinal position. If using a plate, the plate diametershould be large enough so it contacts the face ofseal housing.
