It provides a newproper sealing surface, is easy to installand does not require excessiveequipment downtime.Wear SleeveThe use of a Parker Wear Sleeve:• Eliminates refinishing of shafts in thefield — saving machining costs andequipment downtime.• Eliminates costly finishing of newshafts — saving on machining,grinding and polishing normallyrequired to provide an adequatesealing surface.Design OptionsWear sleeve design options include:• Stamped sleeves with phosphatecoating.• Machined sleeves without phosphatecoating, ground to 10 to 25 Ra finish.Shaft FinishShaft finishes up to 100 Ra requirelittle or no sealant under the ParkerWear Sleeve. Damaged or groovedshafts or finishes greater than 100 Rarequire a thin coat of sealant under thewear sleeve.InstallationQuick SleeveTo select the correct size Quick Sleeve, measure thediameter of the shaft at three positions just ahead of the wearpath. Average the readings to compensate for an out-of-roundshaft. Find your average diameter in the Quick Sleeve sizelisting. Sufficient press-fit is designed into the sleeve whenthis diameter falls within a range on the size listing. SeeAppendix E.The Quick Sleeve is designed with a removable flange toaccommodate a variety of seal configurations. To removeflange, cut through flange to the score line using cutting pliers.Install sleeve. Fold flange back and forth to start clean breakalong score line.Wear SleeveShaftQuick SleeveQuick Sleeve InstallationTool1. Remove all dirt, burrs or old adhesive from the shaft areawhere the wear sleeve will be seated.2. If the shaft is scored or its finish is rougher than 100 RMS,apply a thin coat of gasket cement.3. Position wear sleeve over shaft and press into positionusing sleeve tool or flat plate. Light hammer blows againstsleeve tool or flat plate are sufficient to seat wear sleeve.Some users prefer to expand the wear sleeve by mildlyheating (not to exceed 400 °F [204 °C]) and then quicklyslip it into position on the shaft.4. Clean OD of wear sleeve, making sure that all gasketcement has been removed. Gasket cement is highlyabrasive and could cause seal leakage.5.
