1010FlexiCase MaterialsCommon Materials Used in thisProductThe most popular fillers for FlexiCase productsare graphite, fiberglass/molybdenum disulfide, carbon fiber and mineral.A complete listing of material properties andlimitations appears on Pages 9-7 and 9-8. Feel freeto contact the EPS Division PTFE EngineeringTeam at (801) 972-3000 for more guidance onmaterial selection.0301 — Graphite FilledSince graphite is often used as a lubricant, it doesnot significantly increase the coefficient of frictionof PTFE when used as a filler. The low frictionallows the compound to be used when both shaftspeed and pressure are high. Graphite also ischemically inert which enables its use in corrosivemedias.0615 — Proprietary Low Wear PTFEThis proprietary filled PTFE offers low wear andfriction properties, used in general applicationswhere long life is required. Not recommended forapplications with abrasive media.0204 — Molybdenum Disulfide and Fiberglass FilledMolybdenum disulfide increases the hardness ofthe seal surface while decreasing friction. It isnormally used in small proportions combined withother fillers such as glass. MoS 2 is inert towardsmost chemicals.0502 — Carbon Fiber FilledCatalog EPS 5350/USACarbon fiber lowers creep, increases flex andcompressive modulus and raises hardness.Coefficient of thermal expansion is lowered andthermal conductivity is higher for compounds ofcarbon fiber filled PTFE. Ideal for automotiveapplications in shock absorbers and water pumps.0127 — Mineral FilledMineral is ideal for improved upper temperaturesand offers low abrasion to soft surfaces. PTFEwith this filler can easily be qualified to FDA andother food-grade specifications like 0128.Metal Can MaterialsS — Stainless SteelGood chemical resistance properties up to 600 °F(315 °C). Resists corrosive media up to 400 °F (205 °C).C — Cold-Rolled SteelGood in oils and other media friendly to ferrousmetals up to 600 °F (315 °C). Excellent value forcost-sensitive projects.Z — Zinc-Plated Cold-Rolled SteelGood in oils and mildly corrosive media up to 450 °F(230 °C) . A lower cost alternative to stainless steel.A — AluminumExcellent lightweight, high-strength material.Should be used with aluminum housing whenthermal cycling is likely.03/28/0610-6 Parker Hannifin CorporationEPS DivisionToll Free: (800) 233-3900www.parkerseals.com
