care of patients with cancer.
Division faculty members continue to see a
large number of patients with solid tumors and to
provide true multidisciplinary care through several
active multidisciplinary conferences focused on specific
types of cancer. Examples of conference topics
held recently include general cancer, gynecologic
cancers, and cancers of the head and neck area.
Members of the division provide a wide
range of activities within the Medical Center cancer
program. Minsig Choi, MD, is particularly interested
in gastrointestinal cancers.
Vince Herrin, MD, FACP, became director
of the Department of Medicine’s residency program.
Darryl Hamilton, MD, serves as principal investigator
for the Medical Center’s membership in
the Southwest Oncology Group.
Thigpen continues in his leadership role in
the Gynecologic Oncology Group. He serves as its
vice chair for science and chairs its Protocol Development
Committee. He also serves as principal investigator
for the Medical Center.
Ralph Vance, MD, continues his service to
the American Cancer Society nationally as one of
its past presidents and participates in a variety of
ACS committees and activities.
Louis Puneky, MD, continues to provide an
educational resource to the fellows with his six years
of oncology experience in private practice and oversees
important aspects of the division’s patient care
programs.
Fellows for July 2007 include Drs. Karissa
Boyd, Nikki Cleveland, Barbara Craft, Vikas Dembla,
Jennifer Frost, Reece Jones, Brian Persing, Ashley
Sumrall, and John Voss. All nine of the division's
fellows presented abstracts at the SSCI meeting in
New Orleans in February 2007. Craft spent eight
months at MD Anderson with a combined emphasis
in phase I clinical trials and breast cancer.
