The Mississippi Delta is known as the
“Birthplace of the Blues,” and not without
reason. It was home to blues legends
Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf, Charley Patton, and
Muddy Waters.
It was home to Bo Diddley, Son House, John
Lee Hooker, and Sam Cooke.
Birthplace of the Blues
And it was home to Elmore James, Willie
Dixon, Otis Rush, and B. B. King
To name a few.
The blues is a uniquely American music
form: its development influenced by spirituals, work
songs, ballads, and its African roots. Its history is
steeped in slavery, poverty, and toiling under the hot
Mississippi sun.
