Pulmonary,
Critical Care and
Sleep Medicine
The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care
and Sleep Medicine provides critical care in the
medical intensive care units and consultative services
at University Hospital, the Jackson Medical Mall
Thad Cochran Center, the G.V. (“Sonny”) Montgomery
Department of Veterans Affairs Medical
Center, and the University Medical Pavilion. Under
the leadership of Division Director G. Douglas
Campbell, MD, the division continues to grow.
Marcy Petrini, PhD, directs the pulmonary
function laboratory, which offers methacholine
challenges and simple exercise testing. Soon the pulmonary
function laboratory will be providing pulmonary
function test results online through the
intranet. Petrini serves as vice chair for medical research
on the board of directors for the American
Association for Medical Instrumentation.
In addition to directing the VA Medical Center
sleep laboratory, Chappy Pinkston, MD, serves
as chief of respiratory care services and medical director
of Hinds Community College respiratory
therapy program. He also serves as medical advisor
for the Tri-State Respiratory Care Conference and
remains active in the education of residents, fellows
and respiratory therapy students.
John Spurzem, MD, is medical director of
the Wallace Conerly Hospital for Critical Care, and
