This route as an impact of 36,671 ha and the same methodology will now beapplied to the remaining two alternatives.10.1.2 Alternative 2The second alternative traverses from Camden to Mbewu via Piet Retief, Paul Pietersburg andGluckstad to a number of options that split in the lower reaches before arriving at Mbewu. As youcan see from the table below quite a number of the routes have been excluded. This is mainly dueto the fact that the last section of the route has 2 sets of routes that have to be assessed. The firstis at point N where there is four alternative (NL, NO, SNO1 and SNO2) and these in turn have theirown implications later down the route. It was found that the best alternative is to traverse via NO-SOI-SIJ resulting in the complete Alternative 2 being AM-MN-NO-SOI-SIJ with a short section ofOI and IJ included completing the route.
