February 2011 122 1261912.2.1 TopographyOnce the power lines are <strong>co</strong>nstructed there should be no further impact to topography.12.2.2 Soils and Land CapabilityThe impact assessment does not change from that of the <strong>co</strong>nstruction phase, refer to Section 12.1above.12.2.3 FloraOnce the operational phase is entered the flora within the servitude should be managed ac<strong>co</strong>rdingto the Eskom Vegetation Management guideline. This guidelines describes how any vegetationthat poses a fire risk requires to be removed or cut to manage the risk. This impact is identical tothe servitude clearance described in Section 12.1 under the additional impact and hence theimpact remains a Moderate Impact.12.2.4 FaunaDuring the operational phase the power lines will be energised and ac<strong>co</strong>rding to the document onelectric and magnetic fields associated with power lines, there is no negative impacts associatedwith electro magnetic fields. Therefore the only impact will be the electrocution of fauna, which inthis case is avifauna which is assessed seperately. Therefore the impact during operations toterrestrial fauna remains as assessed in Section 12.1, i.e. a Low impact.12.2.5 Surface Water and WetlandsOnce the power lines are <strong>co</strong>nstructed there should be no further impact to surface water.12.2.6 VisualOnce the power lines are strung as described in Section 12.1 above, this impact will remain andhence the impact assessment will remain as asssed during <strong>co</strong>nstruction.ZITHOLELE CONSULTING
