February 2011 125 1261913.3 VegetationManagementVegetationComponentPrimary ObjectiveTo ensure the <strong>co</strong>ntrol of alien invasive species and that the rehabilitation of indigenous vegetation to as close to the original stateas possible.Core Criteria:Monitoring CriteriaAll <strong>co</strong>nstruction areas should be demarcated prior to <strong>co</strong>nstruction to ensure that the footprintof the impacts are limited (including areas where vehicles may traverse)Take appropriate remedial action where vegetation establishment has not been successful orerosion is evident.Control of alien invasive species in line with the requirements of Conservation of AgriculturalResources Act will be undertaken.Alien invasive plant material will be preferentially removed in entirety through mechanicalmeans (e.g. chainsaw, bulldozer, hand-pulling of smaller specimens). Chemical <strong>co</strong>ntrol isonly required as a last resort.Site Development Plan, EMPmonitoring and IntermittentIf during the establishment period, any noxious or excessive weed growth occurs, suchobservationvegetation will be removed.No <strong>co</strong>nstruction activity and disturbance will be permitted in the seasonal seepage zone.It is the developer’s responsibility to implement a monitoring programme that will be institutedto ensure that re-growth of alien invasive plants species does not occur, or that such regrowthis <strong>co</strong>ntrolled.The sensitive vegetation unit should be avoided and <strong>co</strong>nstruction limited to 50 m from theedge of the wetlands and streamsAdhere to the ESKOM vegetation management guidelineZITHOLELE CONSULTING
