Largetracks of land have been changed by cultivation (forestry and sugarcane), mining (coal) andurbanisation. In addition to these there is the impact of subsistence living. Large sections of thetribal lands in Kwazulu Natal have been steadily changed in species composition through years ofcommunal grazing, burning and agriculture. Figure 7-23 below provides an illustration of the scaleof the disturbance across the study area.
