RECOMMENDATIONSBased on the findings of this research project, it is recommended that:Focus of professional development1. The provision of professional development support for Māori-medium teachers befocused on the teachers’ needs, as well as their student needs and the needs of theirschools.2. Professional development support in the areas of reo Māori, literacy, Māori mediumassessment, and pedagogy be increased.3. Consideration be given to ways that professional development support can betteraccommodate the different language demands and contexts evident across Levels 1-4 immersion settings (with a particular focus on Levels 1-3).In-service support4. Consideration be given to underta<strong>ki</strong>ng a review of in-service support for Māorimedium teachers with the aim of clarifying roles, improving coordination andincreasing accessibility.Promotion5.
