ORGANIZATION UNIT OF THE VICE-DIRECTOR FOR INFORMATICS * INFORMATION SYSTEMS DIVISION– It prepares posters for propag<strong>at</strong>ion purposes and for geologistsparticip<strong>at</strong>ing <strong>at</strong> conferences,– It prepares proposals for printed SGIDS propag<strong>at</strong>ionm<strong>at</strong>erials and provides their realiz<strong>at</strong>ion,– It issues the Institute’s annuals, cre<strong>at</strong>es display postersand leaflets promoting the SGIDS products and services,– It elabor<strong>at</strong>es graphic proposals and printouts for dailyneeds and occasional printouts – heading paper, businesscards, doorpl<strong>at</strong>es, New Year’s greetings, invit<strong>at</strong>ionsto various events, programmes of actions, circulars forconferences and seminars,– It elabor<strong>at</strong>es graphic proposals for various propag<strong>at</strong>ionitems – promotion plastic bag, marble paper weights,medals to the anniversaries of SGIDS,– It elabor<strong>at</strong>es photographic document<strong>at</strong>ion from theevents organized by the Institute.Department of the Central <strong>Geological</strong> LibraryCentral <strong>Geological</strong> Library is n<strong>at</strong>ion-wide inform<strong>at</strong>ioncentre and specialized library focused in the sphere of geologyand other geoscience disciplines. It collects, elabor<strong>at</strong>es,preserves and makes available domestic and foreignscientifi c and professional library documents. It provides aclassical and electronic free access to inform<strong>at</strong>ion. It cre<strong>at</strong>esand makes available d<strong>at</strong>abase GLIB – ProfLib (electronicc<strong>at</strong>alogue) in the sphere of its specialis<strong>at</strong>ion and aswell as foreign bases of d<strong>at</strong>a.Main Library activities in the year 2007:– The Library’s fund – is the result of long-lasting specialis<strong>at</strong>ionin geology, system<strong>at</strong>ic upd<strong>at</strong>e on domestic andforeign monographical and periodical titles. By December2007 the Library registered 70 639 titles of monographicand periodic liter<strong>at</strong>ure (books and bound journalvolumes); on the top of the above the Library inserted intoits evidence 53 968 non-bound titles of periodic liter<strong>at</strong>ureand 559 journal titles. There were discarded 50 public<strong>at</strong>ions.In the year 2007 from the Library’s fund were borrowed5 143 documents both in presence or absenceform, besides the above 717 documents in the form ofregular circul<strong>at</strong>ion exchange service for regional centresSGIDŠ (79 journal titles, as well as monographs, or otherdocuments according to specific requirements). Via intern<strong>at</strong>ionaland domestic interlibrary exchange service theLibrary supplied 117 documents. In this period the Library<strong>at</strong>tracted 29 new external visitors. Along with previousyears we register 540 customers (besides the SGIDŠ employees)and the increment for the year 2007 was 2 %.– Base of d<strong>at</strong>a (in electronic form) and rel<strong>at</strong>ed recherchéservices:a) foreign bases of d<strong>at</strong>a with abstracts from the sphereof geology and environment on CD-ROM (all-in-allabout 4 470 000 records). In the year 2007 thesed<strong>at</strong>abases were used for 2 647 recherché:• GEOBASE (annual increment on 50 000 records),• GEOREF (annual increment on 70 000 records),• EMBASE (annual increment on 30 000 records).b) Base of d<strong>at</strong>a GLIB (ProfLib) – electronic libraryc<strong>at</strong>alogue being developed since the year 1990 andcontinuously upd<strong>at</strong>ed on records about new public<strong>at</strong>ions,selected articles and bibliographic records. By31/12/2007 the c<strong>at</strong>alogue included 36 778 records.The subbase of borrowed items is administered separ<strong>at</strong>elyand we registered by the end of 2007 6 933records. The GLIB is available <strong>at</strong> the website http://geod<strong>at</strong>a.gssr.sk/webisnt/glib.htm.– In the scope of the intern<strong>at</strong>ional cooper<strong>at</strong>ion numerous primarydocuments are being sent abroad based upon intern<strong>at</strong>ionallibrary exchange. In the year 2007 the Library wasin contact with 217 partner institutes from 59 countries; itgained 427 of journals, monographs, maps and other documenttypes. The Library continuously provided also thestandard reprographic service <strong>at</strong> the documents study.Department of Inform<strong>at</strong>ics RC Spišská Nová VesThe Department of Inform<strong>at</strong>ics provided in the year 2007precise d<strong>at</strong>a and graphic processing of groundwork for outputof geological issues solved in the scope of the SGIDŠprojects, as well as in the scope of the intern<strong>at</strong>ional and interdisciplinarycooper<strong>at</strong>ion (D<strong>at</strong>abank of geophysical measurings– vertical electric sounding, Geophysical archive,d<strong>at</strong>abanks and register results of geological-geophysicalworks, Monitoring of radon volume activity in geologicalenvironment <strong>at</strong> the territory of SR, Magnetic map SR, Basichydrogeological map of selected regions of Slovakia,Cross-border contamin<strong>at</strong>ion of soils in high mountainareas in Slovakia, Integr<strong>at</strong>ed Landscape Management,General geological map SR <strong>at</strong> scale 1 : 200 000, Deep repositoryRAO, <strong>Geological</strong> inform<strong>at</strong>ion system – GeoIS).Besides the above the Department provides vectoris<strong>at</strong>ion,processing and desk-top publishing of maps and advertisingm<strong>at</strong>erials using large scale form<strong>at</strong> plotter HP DesignJet 800up to a form<strong>at</strong> A0+.<strong>St<strong>at</strong>e</strong> <strong>Geological</strong> Institute of Dionýz Štúr Annual Report 2007 27
