INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIONINTERNATIONAL PROJECTS• Goal of the project Environmental Research andCharacterisation of Ecological Loads in Outer Flyschof the Western Carpathians, region Jablunkovskábrázda (CzR) and Kysucké Beskydy Mts. (SR),is to enhance quality parameters, to decipher the carriersand to defi ne sources of identified Hg anomaliesand further chemical elements of fi rst of all anthropogeneouscontaminations – pollutants. Based upon theacquired knowledge the models of potential propagation, transitions of these zones into protected areas, mainly those of water sources, and the potential riskratio will be assessed for ecosystems and populationhealth status. The project is being solved as joinedproject of the Ministry of Environment SR and the Ministryof Environment CzR. The Czech partner is CompanyGEOMIN Jihlava.• International project Combined Hydrologic and IsotopicAssessment of the Váh Catchment Vulnerability,Danube River Basin, Slovakia is the project incooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) 12958/ RBF. Its goal is to defi ne convenientmethods for groundwaters baseflow in large catchmentsthrough utilisation of relatively cheap isotope techniques. Also in the year 2007 the project was underpinned bycooperation with Institute of Hydrology SAS in LiptovskýMikuláš.• Joined compilation of groundwork and access formats forinternational project joining 16 EU countries and EuropeanCommission in the scope of the projects eContentplus – eWater – Multilingual cross-border access toground water databases. In the year 2007 in this projectparticipated also the Geofond employees.• In the years 2006 – 2007 the Hungarian Geological Institute– MÁFI and SGIDŠ realized works in the scopeof the international project INTERREG IIIA – EnvironmentalStatus and Sustainable Managementof Hungarian-Slovak Cross-Border GroundwatersBodies – ENWAT. The main goal rests in compilation ofintegrated geological, hydrogeological and environmentalspatial-information system, which should provide asupport tool for implementation of the Water FrameworkDirective ES/2000/60 in both states and principle furthertasks and activities in 3 regions, situated in the delineatedcross-border groundwater bodies.• The goal of the international project Integrated Systemfor Management of Emergency Activities was developmentof this integrated system. In the year 2007the works in the scope of the project SISMA focused inpreparing the documentation for certifi cation were accomplished.• Project GEOMIND solves creation of on-line systemservice (portal) which serves for search for, presentationand processing of geophysical data throughout Europe. It will contain metadata and selected detail data ofthe entire spectrum of geophysical methods. The systemoperates as open object in 10 languages and it isdeveloped by 9 countries. Its outputs are designed forexecutive organizations of state administration and selfgovernment,exploration-exploitation and constructionorganizations, as well as for scientifi c sphere.• The actual issues of climate change are in focus of theproject GEOCAPACITY, which is fi nanced from the 6 thFP. The main goal of the project is to estimate Europeanpotential for CO 2storage in underground spaces. Theproject is co-ordinated by the Danish Geological Surveyand 26 partners from member and associated EU statesparticipating in the project solution. The project componentis also base of data of selected objects – regionaland local aquifers, mined-out hydrocarbons depositsand coal seams, supervised by the British GeologicalSurvey.• The same fi nancial source has nourished also theproject devoted to the same issues – CO 2NET EAST.Its main goal is enhancement and exchange of knowledgeamong the countries of Eastern Europe. Theproject is coordinated by the Czech Geological Surveyand its consortium is composed of 9 partners. Our Instituteprovides links among consortium members, aswell as communication with the EU bodies and expertroundtables. A component of the project activities is acreation of web page on given issue, and it has becomea compound of the Institute web page.• An independent scientifi c club ENeRG associates scientific workers from 26 European countries. It deals withsupport and propagation of geoenergy exploitation. Inthe scope of its activities our Institute served as AssociationSecretariat. We provided administration servicesand coordinated its internal activity.State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr Annual Report 2007 29
