INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIONIn June 14 – 15, 2007 in premisesof the State Geological Institute of DionýzŠtúr in Bratislava we organizedthe 8 th Palaeontological Conferencecommemorating anniversariesof 9 significant Czechoslovak palaeontologists:110 th Anniversary ofbirthday of Acad. Dimitrij Andrusov,85 th Anniversary of birthday of RNDr.Viera Kantorová and RNDr. JánBystrický, DrSc., 80 th Anniversary ofbirthday of RNDr. Margita Vaňová,CSc., and RNDr. Ružena Lehotayová,75 th Anniversary of birthdayof RNDr. Pavlína Snopková, CSc.,RNDr. Eva Planderová, DrSc., andRNDr. Jozef Salaj, DrSc., and 70 thAnniversary of birthday of prof. Ing. Zdeněk Vašíček, DrSc.About hundred palaeontologists from Poland, Czech Republicand Slovakia participated at the conference with 48 lecturesand 13 posters. There were focused in recent issues and trendsin palaeontology, both in the phyto-, as well as zoo-palaeontologycovering the entire chronostratigraphical scale.The Slovak Association of Geochemists in cooperation withthe Department of Geochemistry at FNS CU and Departmentof Geochemistry, SGIDŠ organized on 6 th December traditionalannual seminar GEOCHÉMIA 2007. The auditory involved almost80 listeners which heard to 43 presentations documentingpractical as well as methodical results. The presented issuesfrom global solutions through petrological and deposit problemsup to environmental questions documented, that position of thediscipline has become firm in the geoscience field. For futurewe have to response the question whether quite “condensed“programme doesn’t deserve two days time span.On December 13, 2007 there was organized 6 th annualpre-Christmas seminar of SGS, owed to 110 th Anniversaryof birthday of Acad. Dimitrij Andrusov with themain motive New Knowledge on Setting and Evolutionof the Western Carpathians. The seminar has becomevery popular in the geological community and similarlyto the geochemical event it faces the problem of toodense programme squeezed within one day; it is documentedalso by the width of presented issues:1 st section – Mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry,geochronology and volcanology:Symposium Minerals of Rare Earths andNb-Ta: Indicators of Magmatic and MetamorphosedRocks Evolution (Scientifi credactor P. Martinský2 nd section – Environmental Geology;3 rd section – Geological Setting and Tectonic Evolutionof the Western Carpathians;4 th section – Sedimentology, Biostratigraphy and Palaeontology.In December 12 to 14 the cottage Furmanec in Ždiarhosted working meeting between SGIDŠ and PIG Warszawa.25 scientists from both institutes presented results of ongoingprojects of both partner sides and they identified new possibilitiesfor corroboration in new projects based upon the advancementof each country. The discussions dealt with advance inmapping works in the Vysoké Tatry Mts., concept of the touristgeological map of the V. Tatry Mts., on geothermal characterisationof the adjacent areas with pointing out exploited andplanned sources, on issues of the Flysch Zone and unificationof its terminology, as well as on presence of heavy metalsidentified by panned concentrate prospecting at the Slovakside.RNDr. Pavel Bačo gives his lecture at workshop of SGIDŠ and PIG Warszaw in Ždiar.State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr Annual Report 2007 31
PUBLISHING ACTIVITYOF SGIDŠ IN 2007The State Geological Institute of D. Štúr issues professionalgeological literature in the following editions:MINERALIA SLOVACA – periodic journal, which isissued quarterly in Slovak language prevailingly, with Englishsummary. Frequently there werepublished articles also in foreignlanguage. The journal is focused onpublishing contributions of domesticas well as foreign authors. Some journalvolumes are monothematic. In theyear 2007 there was published 39thVolume, MS 1, 2, 3, and 4/2007.SLOVAK GEOLOGICAL MAGAZINE – periodicjournal, which was issued in English language twicea year till 2006. It is the wide-spectrum geological journal presentingcontributions domestic as well as foreign authors. Itis focused on publishing of scientific and research achievementsin the sphere of geological sciences (regional geology,petrology and mineralogy, geochemistry and isotope geology,geophysics, tectonic and structural geology, hydrogeology andgeothermal energy, engineering geology, petroarchaeology),whereas some journal volumes are monothematic. In the year2007 the SGM issuing was interrupted. In the year 2008 wewill issue monographic volume under the same title.GEOLOGICAL WORKS, RE-PORTS – non-periodical journal in Slovaklanguage with English abstract. Journalis focused on publishing results of geologicalresearch. Some journal volumes aremonothematic. In the year 2007 there wasissued GW, Reports 113.REGIONAL GEOLOGY OF THEWESTERN CARPATHIANS –non-periodical journal in Slovak languagewith English résumé. Journal is focused onpublishing results from carried out boreholes.It provides information of regionalcharacter. Besides fundamental lithostratigraphic and tectonicdata it brings data on ore mineralization, hydrogeologicalconditions, thermometry, palaeothermics, geochemistry,or further thematic data in accord with the realized boreholespurpose.CONFERENCES, SYMPO-SIA, WORKSHOPS – nonperiodicaljournalin Slovak languagewith English abstract.Journal is focused onpublishing contributionsfrom scientificevents of monothematiccharacter prevailingly.In the year2007 there were issuedProceedingsof the Conference Geochemistry 2007 and Proceedingsof the 8 th Palaeontological Conference.EXPLANATIONS TO GEOLOGICAL MAPS– are indispensable compound of the geological maps issuedby SGIDŠ in form of independent titles. They contain explanatorytext to general and regional geological maps in Slovakwith English résumé. A significant compound of text explanationsare also geophysical data, data on raw mineral resourcesand environmental geofactors. Of aspecific orientation there are explanationsto some derived maps, as forinstance explanations to tectonic andmetallogenetic map and to engineeringgeological maps.OCCASIONAL PUBLICA-TIONS – bibliographies, annuals,bulletins, guides, terminologicaldictionaries, methodical manuals.In the year 2007there were issuedAnnual SGIDŠ forthe year 2007 andRaw Minerals 2007 – Annual.MONOGRAPHS, ATLASES –thematically focused books. Monographsare issued in Slovak language with extendedEnglish résumé, eventually bilingual.
