In order to gauge the public underst<strong>and</strong>ing on theimportance <strong>of</strong> protecting <strong>and</strong> managing the river system, the Trust carried out a telephonesurvey in 2001 designed to assess awareness <strong>of</strong> the Trust <strong>and</strong> its role, perceptions <strong>of</strong> thestate <strong>of</strong> the river <strong>and</strong> people’s satisfaction with how the river was being managed. Resultsfrom the survey indicated that most people contacted were aware <strong>of</strong> the Swan River Trust(87%), <strong>and</strong> that the major areas <strong>of</strong> concern from the respondents were algal blooms <strong>and</strong>water cleanliness.
