Do not perform instrumentmaintenance or service except as specifically stated. Read the followingsafety information before using the system.General Safety▲ WARNING: If this instrument is not used in the manner indicated bythe instructions in this guide, the safety features of the instrument maybe impaired. Follow these guidelines:• Use only the tubes specified. The use of tubes other than thosespecified may result in damage to the instrument.Biological Safety▲ WARNING: All biological specimens and materials that come intocontact with them can transmit potentially fatal disease. To preventexposure to biohazardous agents, follow these guidelines:• Handle all biological specimens and materials as if capable oftransmitting infection. Dispose of waste using proper precautionsand in accordance with local regulation. Never pipette by mouth.Wear suitable protective clothing, eyewear, and gloves.• After emptying waste bottle, add bleach to the first (fill) line. Ittakes approximately 10 mL of bleach to reach the fill line. Disposeof waste in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.Electrical Safety▲ WARNING: Power off the instrument using the Power Options tool onthe main menu and disconnect the power cord before replacing fuses.Laser SafetyThe Muse System contains a Class IIIb laser operating at 532 nm in CWmode. Light shields within the instrument enclose the path of laserradiation. Additionally, the instrument enclosure provides secondaryprotection from any laser radiation.Preface 3
