Physician Resource PlanningAn Environmental ScanThe Consultants’ prior work in psychiatry PRP led to the clinical (includes concurrent teaching, excludes didactic teaching and clinical research)psychiatrist model illustrated below. The model is premised upon a fifty-hour work week, forty six work weeks per year, 6.5 consultation hours per day,and 1.45 consultants per hour. Hours on call are additional and as required. Prevalence is divided into the major disorder groupings. The estimatedconsultations per FTE based upon the preceding assumptions was calculated as 2,178 over 46 work weeks. Inpatient work is separate and wascalculated at 15-20 cases 90 per psychiatrist per day.Figure 173 Adjusted Population Need Based Model - Psychiatry WorkforceThe model has a number of discretionary, policy and service delivery planning dependant, variables.
