The first sub-theme aimed at obtaining a comparable knowledge of instituti<strong>on</strong>alpolicies towards <strong>for</strong>eign students in different cultural c<strong>on</strong>texts of OECD member countries andtheir underlying c<strong>on</strong>cepts. The sec<strong>on</strong>d sub-theme dealt with various problems c<strong>on</strong>cerning specificmeasures and programmes such as language training, orientati<strong>on</strong> towards campus life, curricula,degree-granting, etc. The third sub-theme discussed problems pertaining to social and culturaladjustments of <strong>for</strong>eign students both <strong>on</strong> and off campus, including accommodati<strong>on</strong>, scholarships,pers<strong>on</strong>al relati<strong>on</strong>ships, etc. More recently, OECD countries have sought ways of attracting more<strong>for</strong>eign students. In some countries, these policies emerge as part of broader <strong>on</strong>es intended tofoster greater internati<strong>on</strong>al cooperati<strong>on</strong>.
