On behalf of FISITA's member societies and
companies in 38 countries, it is my pleasure to
invite you to join us for the FISITA 2010 World
Automotive Congress in Budapest.
As we approach our 33rd biennial World
Congress, the automotive industry is having to
reinvent itself in order to meet the challenges
of a dramatically changing global automotive
landscape. Consumer demands and new
regulations are influencing the development
and marketability of innovations throughout the
FISITA 2010 Congress Chairman, Mr. Andor Paizer
GTE and the organising team in Hungary
would like to extend our warm welcome to
this Preliminary Programme for FISITA 2010
in Budapest.
Budapest last hosted the FISITA Congress
in 1978 and it is both an honour and a
challenge for us to do so again now at this
time of unprecedented change throughout
our industry. The automotive business is of
major importance to Hungary, in terms of our
economy and also our higher education sector.

which is leading to major changes in new and
existing powertrain technologies. However
safety and traffic management also remain
important considerations with many exciting
new developments on the horizon.
At the same time, we live in world in which
more than half of the population now lives
within cities, presenting enormous challenges
and opportunities which call for radical new
vehicle and mobility concepts. The technology
and policy approaches needed to meet these
challenges will differ significantly between
developed and emerging markets.
For FISITA 2010, we have once again
assembled the world's top experts to help
us understand how technology, customers,
governments and structural changes will
shape our profession, as well as our industry,
For this reason we have been able to count on
the backing of our government as well as our
leading automotive manufacturers to bring the
FISITA Congress back to Budapest.
In addition, despite the difficult economic
circumstances of the past year, we have
received the help and strong support of
engineers, national societies, automotive
companies and universities all over the world.
More than 700 abstracts were submitted which
is a testament to the strength of the worldwide
FISITA community. From these excellent
materials, our team has worked hard to create
a congress programme which will help us all in
our professional development, as well as in our
day-to-day jobs.
In particular, FISITA 2010 will tackle some of
the key questions in areas such as: the further
development of internal combustion engines
to achieve better energy efficiency and lower

over the crucial next decade. The beautiful
city of Budapest, situated at the centre of
Europe, close to some of the fastest growing
automotive economies, is an ideal location from
which to plan our future direction.
I am confident that FISITA 2010 will be one of
the year's most important gatherings for all
of us involved in the drive to achieve cleaner,
safer, low-carbon road transportation. I
encourage you to join us in Budapest and help
advance automobiles and sustainable mobility.
