For three quarters of the respondents there has been no increase in their drinkingsince they began studying at the university. Of the 25 per cent who have increasedtheir drinking, most (n=139) see this as a relatively small increase. The remaining 111students feel there has been an appreciable increase in their drinking. There is muchless variation in students’ view that alcohol constitutes a problem for them, as thesmaller standard deviation indicates. The most striking thing is that none of the 11 students who saidthey had 9(+) drinks on each drinking occasion feel that they have a particularproblem with alcohol (i.e. ratings of 2 or 3 on item D10). Each of these respondentsgave a rating of 0 or 1 to item D10. Furthermore, of the 44 who have 5 - 8 drinks peroccasion, only four consider that they have a problem with alcohol.
