adjusted for each regional percentage, permitting their expression as apercent impairment of the whole person. In order to calculate total impairment of the whole person due tospine impairment:A. Select the primarily impaired region (cervical, thoracic, lumbar),1. If applicable, use Table 49 to obtain a diagnosis-based percentageof impairment.2. Test the regional range of motion (Section 3.3c, 3.3d or 3.3e) andobtain the percentage of impairment due to abnormal motion or ankylosisfor each specific movement, using dual- or single-inclinometer methods.3. Perform at least three measurements of each range of motion, andcalculate the permitted variability (+/-10% or 5°) based on either themaximum or median motion values. That is, check whether all threemeasurements fall within reproducibility guidelines by varying less thanthose amounts from either the maximum or median value.4. If consistency requirements are not met, perform additional tests upto a maximum of six until reproducibility criteria are satisfied. If testingremains inconsistent after six measurements, consider the test invalid andre-examine at a later date.5. Use the maximum range of motion and find the percentage ofimpairment in the appropriate tables.6. Add all range of motion impairment values for the one region; if theregion is ankylosed, use the largest ankylosis impairment value.7. To obtain the impairment of the whole person due to the impairment ofthe region of the spine, use the Combined Values Chart to combine thediagnosis-based impairments with the impairment due to limited range of
