A varied series of one or two points is applied. If the subject cannotdistinguish between one point and two points at a distance of at least10mm in two out of three applications, sensation is impaired.Sensory loss on the dorsal surface of the digits is not consideredimpairing. Complete loss of palmar sensation of a digit is considered tobe a 50% impairment of the digit. Partial palmar transverse sensory lossis calculated as the percentage value of that portion of the digit (see Figure8 for the thumb and Figure 19 for the fingers). Partial longitudinalsensory loss values are based on the relative importance of the side of thedigit for sensory function in hand activities (see Figure 5 and Tables 4 and5).See the section on Impairment of the Upper Extremity Due toPeripheral Nervous System Disorders for evaluation of sensory lossabove the digits and motor loss in the entireupper extremity.Principles of Evaluating Abnormal Motion
