Car ElectronicsToyota Industries’ Electronics Division develops andmanufactures an assortment of automobile-relatedelectronics components.Our DC-DC converters, which are fi tted in Toyota MotorCorporation’s (TMC) Prius and Camry Hybrid, were developedby tapping an abundance of know-how and experienceacquired through the development of control devices forelectric counterbalanced lift trucks. A key device in hybridcars, the converter down-converts the high-voltage DCcurrent of the main battery to a lower voltage to rechargethe auxiliary battery and supply power to the lights, wipers,horn and other in-car devices. The division also developsand manufactures compact, low-cost DC-DC convertersfor electric power steering (EPS) systems for hybrid cars, andthese are currently installed in TMC’s Harrier Hybrid (RX 400h)and Kluger Hybrid (Highlander Hybrid). As an integral partof our product lineup, we also develop and manufacturea diverse choice of DC-AC inverters for cars with hybridand conventional engines that are capable of convertingcurrents into the same voltage as household electricity,thereby allowing the operation of various householdelectronic appliances.With growing worldwide interest in environmentalprotection, we foresee a steady rise in demand for hybridcars.
