Environmental <strong>and</strong> Social Contribution Efforts<strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Industries</strong> recognizes that being a good corporate citizen entails far-reaching responsibilities tothe environment as well as to the local communities in which we operate. Accordingly, we undertakeindependent environmental activities that include reducing CO2 emissions <strong>and</strong> other substances, promotingrecycling <strong>and</strong> obtaining ISO 14001 certifi cation at our facilities. At the same time, <strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Industries</strong> alsobelieves in giving back to society, <strong>and</strong> as such, promotes employees’ volunteer efforts <strong>and</strong> interaction withlocal communities.Environmental Protection ActivitiesIn order to help protect the environment while contributingto global economic development <strong>and</strong> the enrichment ofsociety, <strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Industries</strong> has continually strengthened itsGroup-wide environmental activities. As examples of theseefforts, in January 2003 we unveiled the <strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Industries</strong>Group Corporate Commitment to the Environment,which articulated the Group’s basic policies toward theenvironment. Since then, we have worked vigorously topromote the sharing of a unifi ed environmental awarenessamong subsidiaries around the world <strong>and</strong> directed eachGroup company to establish an environmental managementsystem. At the same time, every month we have collectedenvironmental data based on uniform criteria from our Groupproduction companies <strong>and</strong> monitored the progress of theGroup’s overall environmental management. Consequently,amid evolving social circumstances, the vital issues requiringresponses from the <strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Industries</strong> Group becameevident. For that reason, in July 2005 we revised the <strong>Toyota</strong><strong>Industries</strong> Group Corporate Commitment to the Environment<strong>and</strong> renamed it the Global Environmental Commitment,Global Environmental CommitmentThe <strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Industries</strong> Group will contribute to a balance between environmental protection <strong>and</strong> economic growth in itswide-ranging businesses.Basic Policies•The <strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Industries</strong> Group will continue to set challengingtargets aimed at further reducing the environmentalimpact of its business activities, listening carefully to thevoices of its stakeholders, <strong>and</strong> acting in compliance withthe letter <strong>and</strong> spirit of laws <strong>and</strong> regulations.ImprovementGlobal VisionCollaborate with local communities<strong>and</strong> global society in addressingenvironmental protection.Improve eco-effi ciency forall our business activities,products <strong>and</strong> services.HarmonySustainableManagementResponsibilityFulfi ll our social responsibilityof environmentalprotection.•The <strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Industries</strong> Group plans to improve itsenvironmental management, placing environmentalactivities among its highest priorities. In particular, <strong>Toyota</strong><strong>Industries</strong> will give priority to the following items.Curb global warming— Aiming to reduce energyconsumption <strong>and</strong> the output of greenhouse gasesthrough the entire lifecycle of its products, services <strong>and</strong>production activitiesUse resources more effi ciently— Utilizing raw materials,water <strong>and</strong> other resources effi ciently while working toreduce, reuse <strong>and</strong> recycle waste productsReduce environmental risk factors— Reducing the use <strong>and</strong>output of harmful chemical substances of concern whileevaluating environmental risk factors at the planningstage of business activity in order to prevent pollution•The <strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Industries</strong> Group will aim to foster greatercommunication <strong>and</strong> teamwork within a wide range ofpartnerships, including those with customers <strong>and</strong> suppliers,in order to promote sustainable management of theenvironment.
