CASE STUDYSwimming AustraliaIn 2012–13, ASADA developed a tailored anti-dopingeducation strategy for Swimming Australia. The strategybuilt upon the previous version by offering educationfurther down the development pathway, as wellas providing more opportunities for face-to-faceeducation at the elite level of the sport.As the national body, Swimming Australia required allmembers of the Australian Swim Team to completelevel 1 and level 2 of Pure Performance Onlinebefore competing at the FINA World Championships(Barcelona) and IPC World Championships (Montreal).The National Youth Team was also required to completePure Performance Online up to level 1.As part of Swimming Australia’s improved strategy,the Australian Swim Team also attended an advancedPure Performance workshop during their camp atthe Australian Institute of Sport in preparation forBarcelona. The workshop was tailored and deliveredby ASADA to prepare the athletes for scenarios theymay face when competing internationally.To reach a wider audience, we ran a trade standat the Australian Age Championships in Adelaidewhere athletes, parents and coaches were able tospeak to trained ASADA staff about doping control,checking substances and applying for TherapeuticUse Exemptions.Swimming Australia will continue to work with theState Swimming Associations and State Institutes andAcademies to provide anti-doping education throughoutan athlete’s development pathway. This will mainly beachieved by encouraging completion of anti-dopingeducation through Pure Performance Online.The implementation of the new anti-doping educationstrategy means swimmers at all levels can nowaccess high quality anti-doping education. We willcontinue to support Swimming Australia in its ongoingefforts to educate members and improve theiranti-doping knowledge.38
