SALISBURY HISTORYMajor Pike died in <strong>Salisbury</strong>, December 12, 1706 at <strong>the</strong>age <strong>of</strong> 90. On <strong>the</strong> “Green’’ in <strong>Salisbury</strong> Square lies a monumentin his honor. The stone was once <strong>the</strong> stepping stone <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> Quaker Meeting House in Seabrook, NH erected in 1752and removed in 1880.Cynthia Noone explained why <strong>the</strong> Historical Commissionhad <strong>the</strong> stone moved from its former location to <strong>the</strong> “Green”.It had previously been in <strong>the</strong> island at <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong>Beach Road and was lost among <strong>the</strong> road signs.At a special rededication following <strong>the</strong> re-enactment,Selectman Walter Morse, with Selectmen Alfred Sargentand Carl LeSage in attendance, thanked those who did <strong>the</strong>actual work involved. Park Commissioner James Pike was<strong>the</strong> overseer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> project, with <strong>the</strong> work being done byGeorge Mason and his crew. After <strong>the</strong> stone was in place, ahot top walk-way was built around it.Donald Pike spoke for <strong>the</strong> Pike family and told a few storiesrelating to <strong>the</strong> major. One story told <strong>of</strong> Pike’s horsebackride to Boston at <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> eighty.
