SALISBURY HISTORYThe Cushing School, built in 1880, was located in <strong>Salisbury</strong>Square w<strong>here</strong> <strong>the</strong> bank now stands. The two-storybuilding used <strong>the</strong> first floor for grades four and five, <strong>the</strong> secondfloor for grades eight and nine. Grades six and sevenwent to <strong>the</strong> Grange Hall School.By 1893/94 <strong>the</strong> school was divided as Cushing School #1,THE upper floor, and #2, <strong>the</strong> lower floor. Number 1, withtwenty-seven students, was taught by J.Q.A. Pettengill whoreceived a salary <strong>of</strong> sixty dollars a month. Number 2 had anenrollment <strong>of</strong> thirty-eight students. They were taught byMiss Sarah Matilda Moulton, who received thirty dollars amonth.O<strong>the</strong>r teachers were as follows:School Number 1:1892 - J.Q.A.
