2011-20122012PASCAL pupils take part in the Science Revealed-S Factor competitionPASCAL English School and Διιεληθή ρνιή ΠΑΘΑΙ pupils took part in the 6th annual ScienceRevealed event which took place on the 23rd of September at Famagusta Gate in Nicosia.The goal of the event was to present a better public image of researchers and stress the importanceof their role in society, and to encourage young people to perhaps follow a career in research.Among the many displays, attractions and activities of the event was the S-Factor competitionwhich encouraged young students toengage in a scientific phenomenon or experiment,and find an original and fun way to presentit in front of an audience in three minutes.Constantinos Christodoulou in (2A) presented ademonstration and explanation of the use ofmagnetic repulsion in the functioning of magnetictrains and secured third place in the JuniorCategory. Antoniou Panagiotis in (Γ1), explainedthe concept of energy transformations in everydaylife using the example of an elevator.Panayides Vasilis (Γ1) focused on the difficultconcept of the centre of gravity by using twoeggs. Elena Katellari (Γ1) spoke about inertionusing examples derived from everyday life.All students made the school proud of their innovative ways of presenting their scientific concepts,the clarity and simplicity with which they conveyed their scientific knowledge to the audience,and the courage it took to stand in front of an audience and explain their scientific phenomenonin less than three minutes.MERA Research CompetitionPASCAL English School Lefkosia team which participated in the MERA Research Competition organizedby the Ministry of Education and the Research Foundation has beenawarded with an Honourable Mention.Many congratulations to the three students from class 5IB who formed the team: Kyriakos Ellinas,Maria Papadopoulou and Christina Georgiou and of course to the teachers who supervisedtheir work, Mr. Petros Kyprianou and Ms Sophia Michaelidou. The awarding ceremony was heldon the 12th of June at Strovolos Municipality Theatre.PASCAL English School Lefkosia pupils help towards a Guinness world recordFollowing a request to help a blind girl break a Guinness World Record,PASCAL English School Lefkosia pupils responded enthusiastically and tookaction immediately. Young Maria from Greece aims to break the existingrecord of the number of erasers owned by a single person. PASCAL EnglishSchool pupils managed to collect a total of 500 erasers which wereforwarded to the ‗TAMA‘ Association, run by President Dr. Vaso Papavasiliou,who set up a special campaign for this purpose entitled ‗We Loveyou Maria‘. We wish the young girl the best of luck in her effort.15
