2011-20122012PASCAL pupils in the European Youth ParliamentThe European Youth Parliament was designed to encourageand engage young people to become actively involvedin their future via political debates. It aims to createindependent thinking and allows our students to gainsocial and professional skills through an active programmeof European political debating and team building.As every year, PASCAL English School Lefkosia pupilstook part, this time promoting political awareness intopics such as Human Trafficking, problems of unemploymentand threats of cyber-terrorism etc. They participatedin various committee games that developedtheir team building skills and at the same time collaboratedwith each other and students from other schools inwriting various resolutions. These resolutions were thendebated on by the students in the General Assembly at the end of the EYP session. Once againPASCAL pupils displayed their desire for expanding their knowledge and pushing the learning experiencebeyond their daily school activities.Ms Evridiki KourtoumbelidouHistory TeacherMEDI.M.U.NPASCAL English School Lefkosia once again attendedthe annual Mediterranean Model United Nations inwhich students from all around the world come togetherto discuss and deliberate on political topics.Each student undertakes the role of a UN diplomat,writing and debating resolutions which offer solutionsto world problems. Students undertake extensive research,lobbying and parliamentary procedures whichlead to an active debate.This year‘s MEDI.M.U.N conference placed specificimportance on topics concerning global nuclear disarmament,illicit trade in small arms, decriminalizationof drugs worldwide, migration without borders andcontrol of nuclear energy and safety procedures.Also, as every year MEDI.M.U.N hosted a specialevent where few students debate and play the roleof specific political individuals related to their topic.This year‘s topic was the ‗Mexican Drug Wars‘ wherethey portrayed the various drug cartels that controlmost of Mexico. Many congratulations to the pupilswho took part and gave a great performance: KassianiOrphanou, Anna Maria Neophytou, BiancaGeaglanou, Maria Soupashi, Athina Christodoulou,Kyriakos Ellinas, Alexandros Loizou, Paula Christouand Andria Masonou.Maria Soupashi 5A23
