2011-20122012The LibraryMy school libraryThe library of PASCAL Education Lefkosia was established in the academic year2005-2006 and provides students and staff access to a variety of resources.The School library teaches to the students information skills, promotes love forreading and creates the future users of an academic library. Via several activitiessuch as The Annual Library Competition, the Writer of the Month competition, TheBooks Bazaar, the Scholastic Book Fair, the Library Newsletter and Library Lessons,students have the opportunity to use the library and improve their reading andwriting skills and also learn how to be good library members.The importance of Library LessonsEvery year the librarian delivers a library lesson to the students whovisit the library accompanied by a teacher. During the library lesson,a leaflet is given to the students by the librarian with the newsof the library, library rules and a part of information literacy whichdiffers depending on the form. For instance: Year 1 students learnthe classification system and how to find a book following the classificationnumber with the help of the librarian. Year 2 studentslearn how to make a search in an electronic catalogue (OPAC).Why are library lessons so important? Through these lessons the students learn to use the Academic Librariesa skill which will be very useful and helpful during their studies at the University. Also they learnhow to conduct a library search and find the right information that suits their needs. During these librarylessons students have the opportunity to learn how to find articles in electronic and printed form which isvery important for the creation of their projects and academic assignments.Finally, the students have two library lessons every year with their teachers in order to do projects and toobtain knowledge for reference materials and journals.Assistant LibrariansEvery year the library team is ready to help voluntarily in the libraryduring break time, ensuring that the library rules are respectedand helping the students to have access to the computersand to library resources. Every student is welcome to take part inthis team to learn new things, earn House Points and make newfriends.
