Growing, harvesting,and transporting biomass fuels all require local labor, as does maintaining the equipment,which contribute to the high cost of biofuel. However, this means that jobs will be createdin areas with a depressed agricultural economy. 331260. In 2011, women represented 17.3% of all employees in “electricity, gas, steam andair conditioning supply.” 332 According to a USAID evaluation, there are no energy servicecompanies with female chief executive officers, and “all key personnel” of such companiesare male. 333 Not only should women’s interest in renewable energy be supported, but theyshould also have access to potential jobs in this new field.
