In unserer schnelllebigen, oft hektischen Zeit<br />
tut es nun rund um den Jahreswechsel sehr gut,<br />
ein wenig innezuhalten, um die vergangenen<br />
Monate Revue passieren zu lassen. Auch für uns<br />
war <strong>2015</strong> ein spannendes erstes Jahr unserer gemeinsamen<br />
Herausgeberschaft von Cercle Diplomatique.<br />
Für Ihre so positiven Reaktionen wollen<br />

im kommenden Jahr unser Bestes geben, um eine<br />

Unsere Cover-Story bringt Sie in der kälteren<br />
Zeit in wärmere Gefilde: Thailand möchte die bereits<br />
bestehenden guten Handelsbeziehungen zu<br />
Österreich auch weiterhin verstärken (ab Seite 34).<br />
Ein Treffen der ganz besonderen Art fand kürzlich<br />
im Hotel Bristol Wien statt. Der neue deutsche<br />
Botschafter in Wien, seine Exzellenz Johannes<br />
Haindl, und der neue Botschafter der Russischen<br />
Föderation in Wien, seine Exzellenz Dmitry<br />
Lyubinskiy, trafen unseren Autor Rainer Himmelfreundpointner<br />
zu einem interessanten Gespräch,<br />
zu lesen ab Seite 46.<br />
Unser Sonderteil zu einem österreichischen<br />
Bundesland widmet sich diesmal Tirol. Dort vermögen<br />
neben der phänomenalen Bergwelt und der<br />
prachtvollen Natur auch der Tourismus, die<br />
Kulturszene und das Wirtschaftsleben zu beeindrucken<br />
(ab Seite 81).<br />
Nirgendwo sonst sind Bälle so romantischfeierlich<br />
wie in Wien. Diese Tradition begeistert<br />
Einheimische und Gäste weit über eine Nacht hinaus.<br />
Hier finden im Winter über 400 Bälle mit einmaligem<br />
Flair statt, frequentiert von rund 300.000<br />
tanzfreudigen Besucherinnen und Besuchern aus<br />
aller Welt. Gesellschaftlicher Höhepunkt ist der<br />
Wiener Opernball, der in der Oper, „im schönsten<br />
Ballsaal der Welt“, stattfindet. Der Staatsball der<br />
Republik Österreich ist zugleich auch der Ball der<br />
Künstler der Wiener Staatsoper (Seite 132).<br />
In so einer Nacht kann man dann auch den<br />
heimischen Schaumwein kennenlernen. Österreichischer<br />
Sekt ist eine Besonderheit. Mittlerweile<br />
wird damit rund ums Jahr und nicht mehr nur<br />
tradi tionell zu Silvester das Glas erhoben.<br />
In our fast-paced, hectic times, it can be good to<br />
take stock and reflect on the months gone by,<br />
especially at the turn of the year. For us, <strong>2015</strong><br />
was an exciting first year of our joint editorship of<br />
Cercle Diplomatique. A heartfelt thank you for the<br />
many positive reactions we received. We will do<br />
our best to provide you with further informative,<br />
stimulating and enjoyable reading in the coming<br />
year.<br />
Our cover story takes you to a warmer climate<br />
during the colder season: Thailand aims to continuously<br />
strengthen the existing good trade relations<br />
with Austria (from page 34). A special meeting<br />
recently took place at Hotel Bristol Vienna.<br />
The new German Ambassador to Austria, His Excellency<br />
Johannes Haindl, and the new Ambassador<br />
of the Russian Federation to Austria, His Excellency<br />
Dmitry Lyubinskiy, met our writer Rainer<br />
Himmelfreundpointner for an interesting conversation<br />
(start reading p. 46).<br />
Our special section is devoted to the Austrian<br />
federal province of Tyrol, where tourism, the cultural<br />
scene and the economy impresses – besides the<br />
phenomenal mountains and its magnificent nature<br />
(from p. 81).<br />
Balls in Vienna are romantic and festive like<br />
nowhere else. This tradition delights locals and visitors<br />
far beyond one night. More than 400 balls –<br />
each with its unique flair – take place during winter,<br />
frequented by around 300,000 dance-loving<br />
visitors from around the world. The social highlight<br />
is the Vienna Opera Ball held in the opera, „the<br />
most beautiful ballroom in the world“. The Opera<br />
Ball, a ‘State Ball’ of the Republic of Austria, is also<br />
the artists’ ball of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra<br />
(p. 132).<br />
During such a night, one can become acquainted<br />
with the domestic sparkling wine. Austrian<br />
„Sekt“ is a speciality. Today, glasses are raised with<br />
it all year round and not only traditionally at New<br />
Year‘s Eve.<br />
