COMMUNITY --- WHERE WE LIVE
CITY OF PONTIAC
Pontiac, located in the center of Oakland
County, is a community that is becoming a
place to live, work, and play with easy access
to I-75, US-24 and M-59.
Since Jan. 1, 2011, Pontiac has seen $305
million in construction, including the new
tower at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, the M1
Concourse, and the Wessen Tennis Club.
General Motors is making new investment in
Pontiac, and other automotive suppliers are
occupying properties previously vacated by
General Motors. Historic downtown Pontiac
saw 15 new businesses open their doors this
past summer and is anticipating the opening
of Slows Bar B-Q and the Flagstar Strand
Theatre for the Performing Arts, which will
be Oakland County’s only full scale performing
arts center, in 2016. Early in 2015, Plante
Moran CRESA cited downtown Pontiac as
the next hot downtown real estate market
outside of Detroit. New housing developments
on the north end of the city are once
again ready to construct new housing.
Home to two world renowned haunted house
attractions, a golf course with an island
hole, North America’s largest indoor soccer
facility, and 30 parks, the City of Pontiac is
sure to offer everyone a recreational venue
of interest. In 2015, Wisner Stadium became
home to semi-professional women’s football
and men’s soccer teams. Pontiac is also
home to the state’s only private school to offer
the International Baccalaureate program
from grades K through 12.
In the past five years, Pontiac’s government
has been reorganized to provide efficient
and effective basic city services. The building
and planning offices are certified by
Oakland County as One Stop Ready.
As a result of the new master plan, the city
has created entrepreneurial districts to
make land use more flexible for development.
The Office of the Oakland County Sheriff
provides law enforcement services and
Pontiac is also served by the Waterford
Regional Fire Department.
