Prefix: What a Concept
Since 1979, Prefix Corporation has been creating innovative
designs for the aviation and automotive industries. With
six facilities and 300 employees, Prefix is a single-source
manufacturing company with specialty services including
vehicle prototypes, engine design and testing, high-tech paint
finishes, proof of concept models and luxury interiors.
In addition to automotive and other industries, the
Rochester Hills-based company is also involved in aviation.
It recently created a full-scale prototype model of the G600
Business Jet, working with engineers and designers at
Gulfstream Aerospace.
“The G600 jet is the largest prototype the team has built,”
says Marketing Director Jhan Dolphin.
Prefix is the team behind the prototype of the new Lincoln
Continental concept car and also develops Hollywood film
props, like the Galvatron spaceship for the Transformers film
franchise. Most popular, though, is their work with Dodge,
painting all production Vipers and creating the Targa Viper
conversion. The latter has a removable roof panel — a feature
the regular Viper doesn’t offer.
“Our Prefix Performance division specializes in these
low-volume niche vehicles,” Dolphin says. “Our latest, a Baja
racing-inspired Ram truck conversion called Minotaur, is on a
promotional tour across the country.”
