COMMUNITY --- WHERE WE LIVE
CITY OF ROCHESTER
COMMUNITY Named by CNN/Money
Magazine as one of the “Best Places to
Live,” Rochester is a picturesque city
with a vibrant downtown and beautiful
neighborhoods surrounded by three pristine
waterways and an abundance of lush green
space. Rochester is the ideal place to raise a
family, have a business, pursue a degree in
higher education, socialize with friends and
family, or get fit by taking advantage of its
many parks, trails, rivers, and sports fields.
Rochester truly is “where you live.”
THINGS TO DO Rochester hosts many
unique events, making the city a destination
for visitors throughout the year. Activities
include the Downtown Rochester Farmers’
Market and the second-largest juried art
festival in Michigan — Art & Apples. The
holiday/winter season brings the awardwinning
Big, Bright Light Show, the Kris
Kringle Market, the largest Christmas
Parade in Michigan, and the Fire & Ice
Festival. Rochester is a culturally rich city
and home to Paint Creek Center for the
Arts, the Rochester Symphony Orchestra,
and Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve.
WHAT’S HAPPENING Rochester is
recognized as a Great American Main Street
Award Community by the National Main
Street Center, Inc. Only a select group of
communities receive this designation each
year. Rochester also recently completed the
construction of two new parking platforms
creating an additional 532 total parking spaces.
TYPES OF BUSINESSES A perfect mix of
historic and hip, Downtown Rochester is
home to more than 400 shops, restaurants,
and professional service businesses — 80
percent of which are exclusive to Rochester.
The area enjoys a healthy retail business
environment and boasts a 97 percent
retail occupancy rate. From major regional
employers like Par Pharmaceuticals to The
Royal Park Hotel — a four-star boutique
hotel — and the historic Western Knitting
Mill, Rochester is a magnet for businesses
of all types.
