EDUCATION --- EXCELLENCE MATTERS Oakland Community College Focused on Community Need... Then. Now. Always. Oakland Community College (OCC) recently celebrated a half century serving its community. Over the last 50 years, OCC contributed significantly to southeast Michigan: ❯ Enrolled more than one million students seeking degrees, certificates, expanded skills, personal enrichment and lifelong learning. ❯ Prepared more than 30,000 graduates in Applied Technologies and Business Administration for local employers, and 7,000 nurses for healthcare systems. ❯ Graduated more than 5,000 emergency responders who serve as firefighters, police officers, EMTs and dispatchers. ❯ Forged over 200 college and university transfer agreements enabling OCC students to go on to a myriad of professions, including doctors, lawyers, engineers and even an astronaut! ❯ Granted degrees and certificates to more than 81,000 graduates. ❯ Retrained thousands of dislocated workers when unemployment spiked in the 1980s and again in 2008. ❯ Delivered in excess of $45 million in corporate training to businesses including General Motors, Chrysler, HP, Kelly Services, Garden Fresh and hundreds of other employers large and small. While there is much to celebrate, OCC is focused on increasing accountability to taxpayers, the community, students, businesses, industry, accreditors and state and federal government for achievement of outcomes, and most importantly, ensuring students succeed.
