Juha Kääriäinen is a senior researcher at Police<br />

College of Finland and an adjunct professor of<br />

social policy at University of Tampere, Finland.<br />

His recent international publications are on social<br />

capital and welfare-state, trust in the police and<br />

violence against children. His articles on these<br />

subjects have appeared in many international<br />

journals like European Journal of Criminology,<br />

Homicide Studies, and Violence and Victims.<br />

Biographical details<br />

Mariana is a Chartered psychologist and an<br />

Associate Fellow of the British Psychological<br />

Society. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at<br />

Leeds Beckett University, and her research<br />

interests are in the applied field of stress,<br />

coping and emotions in relation to physical<br />

and mental health and performance outcomes.<br />

Mariana’s research addresses important societal<br />

challenges, and in 2011 she was awarded a Marie<br />

Curie Fellowship leading the SCOPE project<br />

investigating occupational health among police<br />

officers at the University of Porto, Portugal. She<br />

is a reviewer for a number of international peer<br />

review journals and is an expert evaluator for<br />

the Research Executive Agency (REA), European<br />

Commission funding body.<br />
