Message from Mayor Roxanne Carr
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Recreation, Parks and Culture
in Strathcona County. Over the past 50 years our community has seen
tremendous growth and this fall we are excited to open two new recreation
facilities and re-open another to help better meet our residents’ needs.
On Saturday, October 1 we will be opening the brand new Emerald Hills
Leisure Centre which will provide more opportunities for Strathcona
County kids to access swimming lessons. Registration for lessons in this new
space will begin on Tuesday, August 23 and more information can be found
on page 64 of this guide.
After much anticipation, the newly renovated Glen Allan Recreation
Complex will be re-opened on Saturday, October 1. In addition to expanding
the wellness centre by approximately 3,000 square feet, improvements to
accessibility, the racquet courts, curling rink and the facility in general were
completed. Adult wellness programs at Glen Allan Recreation Complex can
be found on pages 43-52 of this guide.
On Saturday, September 17 we will be celebrating the grand opening of the
Emerald Hills Sports Pavilion. This world-class space includes our very first
artificial turf field, baseball diamonds and soccer fields.
