Aquatics 101<br />
Are you looking to join the wonderful world of aquatics as a lifeguard or<br />
aquatic instructor? Aquatics 101 is a program designed for future jobseekers<br />
that prepares candidates for the dynamic experience of working<br />
in aquatics in Strathcona County. Candidates will participate in two<br />
classroom sessions covering topics such as guest service, professionalism<br />
in the workplace, and the behind-the-scenes realities of working at pools.<br />
Candidates must choose a program stream (lifeguarding or instructing)<br />
and will be paired with an experienced Strathcona County team member<br />
for 6-8 practicum shifts outside class time.<br />

Water Safety Instructor<br />
This Red Cross blended classroom program prepares candidates to become<br />
swim instructors that can work in a variety of facilities across Canada.<br />
This program runs differently than any other and will include four elements:<br />
a one day orientation, online e-learning modules, in-water teaching<br />
experience, and five classroom days. Take your WSI certification to prepare<br />
for a job as a Water Safety Instructor in Strathcona County or across Canada.<br />
Candidates must attend all elements of the course to complete.<br />
Please note: the WSI Orientation is at Kinsmen Leisure Centre on<br />
Saturday, September 3, from 9 am - 3 pm. Online and co-teaching sessions<br />
must be completed between September 4 - November 4 and will be<br />
scheduled at orientation. In-class lessons will be at Emerald Hills Leisure<br />
Centre on Saturdays, November 5 - 26 from 9 am - 3 pm.<br />

Tidal Waves Junior Lifeguard Club<br />
More action, more options, more fun! Tidal Waves Lifeguard Club is an<br />
award-winning club that is now offering an even better aquatic alternative<br />
for those youth who love the water and want more than regular lessons.<br />
The Junior Lifeguard Club focus is on the four pillars of the Tidal Waves<br />
Lifeguard Clubs-Knowledge, Fitness, Leadership, and Fun-and each pillar<br />
develops our community’s young leaders and future aquatic instructors<br />
and lifeguards. It’s great for quick learners and those caught between<br />
levels or programs and who love the feeling of being part of a club.<br />

• Leadership and teamwork training develop your abilities to lead in<br />
rescues and lead in life, our goal is to create leaders for the future<br />
• Lifesaving education focuses on new curriculum built specifically for<br />

Tidal Waves Senior Lifeguard Club<br />
Looking for something out of the ordinary? The award-winning Tidal<br />
Waves Lifeguard Club offers you an aquatics experience like no other.<br />
Our three-year senior program for teens 13 - 18 years of age is built upon<br />
four pillars - knowledge, leadership, wellness, fun - and centres around a<br />
team atmosphere. Each level helps members develop and build practical<br />
skills and receive specialized training in core courses such as Bronze<br />
Medallion and Cross (Level 1), Aquatic Emergency Care and Water Safety<br />
Instructor (Level 2), and National Lifeguard and CPR with AED (Level 3).<br />
Come spend your Sundays with teens and coaches who share similar<br />
goals and interests and who take a special interest in you personally.<br />
