The effect of Pt coating on the rate of reaction is presented in the percent<br />
hydrogen plots given in Figure 32. The time to completion of the reaction of the Pt coated<br />
sample with H 2 was about 1 hour which was lower than the 3 hour reaction time for the<br />
non-coated sample. Pt coating increased the reaction rate and capacity of LaNi 5 samples,<br />
which suggested the surface affinity of H 2 was enhanced. This could be due to the high<br />
solubility of H 2 in Pt.<br />
