Little Trains & Boats of Austria
In the Tyrol you can be assured of a warm welcome and great Tyrolean
hospitality. Exploring the mountains and lakes by train and boat is an
experience not to be missed. This tour is based in the town of Igls, ideally
located just above Innsbruck itself.
Day 1-2 We travel to Folkestone for our
crossing to Calais by Eurotunnel. We then
continue our journey to Saarbrücken for an
overnight stop before driving the next day
through Germany, into Austria to our hotel in
the Tyrol for 6 nights.
Day 3 Today we have a half-day excursion to
the medieval town of Rattenberg, where we
will visit the family-owned Café Hacker for a
traditional demonstration of strudel making
and tasting. The town is also home of the
Kisslinger Glass Factory and you can watch a
glassblowing demonstration.
Day 4 We travel to Jenbach, where we will
board the narrow gauge railway to Seespitz
and head to the Achensee to cruise on the
largest and most beautiful of the Tirolean
lakes. We return via Pertisau, where pretty
chalet style houses are dwarfed by the
surrounding Karwendel Alps.
Day 5 After breakfast today we visit the
Herrenchiemsee Palace, located on an island
in the middle of Bavaria’s largest lake, we
access this by a special boat.
Day 6 Today we enjoy an excursion around
the Ziller and Pinzgau valleys, including a stop
in the charming town of Kitzbühel, a famous
ski resort. Continue to the picturesque town of
Mayrhofen. We then take a ride on the historic
Ziller Valley Steam train, which will take you
on a nostalgic journey through magnificent
scenery to Fügen whilst enjoying some live
music and a glass of local schnapps en-route.
Day 7 Today is a free day to relax and explore
the local area.
Days 8-9 Today we depart for the homeward
journey via Germany for an overnight stop
in Saarbrücken before continuing next day
to Calais for our Eurotunnel crossing back to
the UK.
